Competition Heats Up At Track-O-Rama

With another spring, brings another exciting year on the track. Every elementary in the school district, including from partner Cathedral, took part in Track-O-Rama. This 50-plus year tradition brings out the best in the fifth graders.

The goal of this event is to provide an opportunity for students to compete is one another, while building each other up and supporting one another.

The fun began with the annual Tug-O-War event, where Northern Lights battled Great Lakes for the championship. Despite a hard fought effort by GLE, Northern Lights took home their 18th trophy.

Shortly thereafter, the running and field competitions began. Superior decided to host soccer punting and softball throwing instead of shot put and discus. With determination and grit, the fifth graders came home with honors and bragging rights. However, no records were broken this year. Click here for past record holders.

"2024 Track-O-Rama went really well, and the kids had a really good day," said Northern Lights Coach Kris LeopOld. "It was nice to see Lake Superior Elementary win the co-ed relay. Their school is closing, and their success today was extra special. Melissa Hanson and Gunnar Johnson, their Physical Education teachers, did a really nice job picking that relay. Northern Lights Elementary won their 18th Tug-O-War Title. It's not easy to repeat when Cooper, Four Corners, and Lake Superior get new P.E. Teachers. Like Vince Lombardi once said, 'It's tougher to stay on top than it is to get there.'"

Don’t forget, 8th Grade Track-O-Rama is scheduled for June 1st.
